The Mediabox Coordinator for the North West will be hosting a free event for organisations interested in applying for Mediabox funding.
Mediabox is a fund available for organisations to work with disadvantaged young people on youth led media projects. Grant awards range from £500 to £40,000.
You will receive guidance about what type of activity Mediabox will fund, the application process, the different levels of grants available, and you can also view examples of successful Mediabox projects.

NW Cultural Legacy Programme for 2012 Olympics
WE PLAY is the North West cultural legacy programme for the London 2012 Olympic Games & Paralympic Games.
The aim of the programme is to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, and to ensure the Games also leave a lasting cultural legacy for the North West.
WE PLAY is a series of new, innovative & complementary programmes in the North West. It combines digital, physical & virtual participation opportunities for people from all walks of life. Survey: Young people & the internet
Youth of Today is interested in how young people use information & communication technologies (ICTs). Your responses will help them make recommendations to policymakers and organisations that work with young people. This short survey will take about 10 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous.

Craft Club
Craft Club is a national campaign for craft in schools. They aim to unite skilled & enthusiastic craftspeople with children and young people through after-school clubs. Working together they can engage learners beyond the curriculum and enthuse them about making. They believe that the future of craft lies in nurturing talent; children and young people must be able to learn about craft at school and have access to excellent teaching throughout their education.
They offer advice, resources & support to inspire teachers, pupils and volunteers to set up clubs during lunchtimes or after-hours in their school or venue.

Youth Music Open Programme
The Youth Music Open Programme is available for organisations wishing to apply for grants of £5,000 to £30,000. It targets nearly £2m of Youth Music’s funding towards projects that support their goals of:
- Early Years – advancing the learning and development of all children in their early years (0-5) by aiming to ensure universal access to high quality music making in England
- Challenging Circumstances – improving the life chances of children and young people in the most challenging circumstances by supporting them to achieve their full potential through engagement and progression in music making
- Encouraging Talent and Potential – realising the musical talent and potential of children and young people by ensuring opportunity for all to develop their talent regardless of background or chosen

Work experience at Royal Exchange
An exciting opportunity for 20 Year 10 and 11 students to spend a week working, observing and learning from the professionals behind the scenes at the Royal Exchange Theatre.
This is the first of a series of weeks, replacing our previous work experience programme for schools. Closing date for applications is 7 Dec ‘09.

Gallery assistant internship available
CUBE is running a student placement scheme for creative, arts, design, arts management or heritage graduates. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the gallery team as a gallery assistant to help deliver an exciting programme of exhibitions and events. You’ll have the opportunity to experience the working environment of a gallery and to put into practice the skills, knowledge and understanding of culture and art that you have gained during your course.
The gallery assistant will be practically assisting the Exhibitions Coordinator and Curator in developing the gallery programme, planning and preparing new exhibitions and dealing with the day to day running of the gallery. Your creative ideas will be valued and you will be an integrated part of the gallery team. You will be provided with your own desk and computer.
A placement at CUBE will provide you with valuable experience in the creative sector and help develop your career as you will get the opportunity to develop a high level skills and knowledge required by future employers in the cultural arena. A taxable bursary of £600 for 3 months (£1,200 for 6 months) is available together with travel costs.

Vacancies at Contact
Contacting the World is a pioneering theatre project developed by Contact in Manchester, one of the UK’s leading organisations creating work by and for young people. It aims to increase the skills, understanding and experience of young people from around the world in a unique theatre project facilitated by the internet. Devising 12 new productions which will be premiered together at Contact in July 2010.

A highly motivated and organised individual is required to lead on the delivery of Contacting the World 2010. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate outstanding organisational skills, have experience of international working, be able to work under pressure and possess excellent communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
It is expected that all post holders will be able to start in January.
Special Notice
Contact is currently fundraising for Contacting the World 2010. The posts advertised are dependent on the result of an outstanding funding bid. We will know the results of the funding bid by the end of November. If we do not secure funding for these posts, the interviews will not be held in December as specified.

Charlemagne Youth Prize
The European Charlemagne Youth Prize aims to encourage the development of European consciousness among young people, as well as their participation in European integration projects.
The Prize is awarded to projects undertaken by young people which foster understanding, promote the development of a shared sense of European identity, and offer practical examples of Europeans living together as one community.

What can young people achieve creatively as technology advances?
Are we advancing ourselves enough to support their creative potential?

ENYAN, English National Youth Arts Network in partnership with Cornerhouse invites you & your colleagues in the North West to a FREE event which will explore the advantages of using technology creatively with young people.
We’ll profile case studies of innovative projects within the region and will look at what young people can achieve through the creative process. Speakers will talk about resourcing projects appropriately and ensuring that we, as sector professionals, are open to taking on new projects, artistic concepts & approaches as we support a digital generation.
Models of best practice will be profiled and there’ll be some focused discussion around the issues that are unique to developing, funding & running digital youth arts projects. We’ll also discuss the use of social networking sites with young people and your’ll hear from those experienced in using these online facilities.
We’re looking to create a dialogue between you & the speakers so that you can really benefit from attending. This is a free, open & informal information session for ENYAN members in the region and anyone who wants to know more.

Big Mediabox funding available
Mediabox has opened its Big Mediabox strand.
Big Mediabox accepts applications for grants between £20,000 & £40,000, with up to 10% on capital and match funding of 40% of the total project expenditure, a minimum of 20% of this match funding must be cash. Applications requesting above or below these amounts will be rejected.
Work must be devised & led by disadvantaged young people throughout.
We’re looking to see if your organisation or your partner(s) have managed media projects with a similar budget in the past and have engaged disadvantaged young people, therefore ensure you outline your last 2 relevant projects.
Only organisations with a legal status can apply to Big Mediabox. You must be a Limited Company (registered with Companies House); a Local Authority; a school, college or university or a co-operative. The lead applicant needs to be legally constituted at the time of application, as we will require your company number.
Deadline: 2pm, Wed 20 Jan 2010.

Scaling up is now open for applications!
The Youth of Today Leadership Fund helps 3rd sector organisations scale up innovative youth leadership projects and reach out across communities.
We’ve got £1 million of funding to give away to great organisations across England, to be spent by March 2011 – and your organisation’s project can be part of how that money is allocated.
The next deadline is 12 noon, 11 Dec ‘09. (please note this is the correct date – not the date stated on the application form).
Up to 30 grants of between £5,000 & £20,000 are up for grabs, to help take your work to the next level.
The grants aim to:
- Help more young people take on leadership roles in their community
- Create more opportunities for young people to influence the decisions affecting them
- Raise the quality of youth leadership opportunities

How does today’s sense of community differ from that of previous generations? How does a community’s perception change with time and external influences? How does memory and experience affect the community’s outlook?
Blank Media Collective is seeking proposals for an innovative & exciting exhibition in conjunction with Nexus Art Café, Manchester. Neck of the Woods will be a platform to investigate artists’ responses into the concept of community and how this is evolving. We are looking for emerging practitioners from throughout the UK and internationally to submit proposals exploring this through your own creative practices.
Practitioners are encouraged to submit work or performances using a range of media, questioning and even attempting to answer your own perceptions and preconceived ideas of community. Proposals for live art, site-specific, new or existing work will be accepted.
