Summer Project at Nexus Art Cafe
Nexus are looking to develop a summer programme of art workshops/activities culminating in an exhibition and possibly a weekend festival to showcase youth arts in the city centre at the end of summer. A similar scheme last was piloted summer (though no festival) in conjunction with a local church group with some considerable success. This year they are looking to build upon that foundation and really push the programme forward and hopefully reach many more young people who may not ever access a ‘conventional’ kind of arts space otherwise. If you or your organisation wish to get invloved or you know of any useful links or contacts, please contact Emily Philips at the following address: info@nexusartcafe.com

Workshop for drama workers and teachers
DRAMA, IDENTITY AND DIVERSITY:
Tuesday 23 March 2010
10am – 3.30pm
Venue: Royal Exchange Theatre
Beginning with the simple question, “What If?” drama can take children and young people on a journey of discovery. What if I was a refugee? What if I went to that school? What if I didn’t have any friends? What if everyonelooked at me with suspicion? Drama can enable us to create fictional characters and put them in fictional situations which reflect real people in the real world, without leaving the safety of the classroom. To give someone a name and a voice, in other words to humanize ‘the other’ can dramatically affect the way we see them.

Using some of these ideas as a starting point, this workshop will use
practical, accessible drama-based approaches to explore issues around
identity and diversity, and is suitable for everyone working with both young people and adults.
Cost: £50 (teachers and practitioners) / £30 student teachers
Book at Royal Exchange Box Office: 0161 833 9833
