Summer Project at Nexus Art Cafe

Workshop for drama workers and teachers
DRAMA, IDENTITY AND DIVERSITY:
Tuesday 23 March 2010
10am – 3.30pm
Venue: Royal Exchange Theatre
Beginning with the simple question, “What If?” drama can take children and young people on a journey of discovery. What if I was a refugee? What if I went to that school? What if I didn’t have any friends? What if everyonelooked at me with suspicion? Drama can enable us to create fictional characters and put them in fictional situations which reflect real people in the real world, without leaving the safety of the classroom. To give someone a name and a voice, in other words to humanize ‘the other’ can dramatically affect the way we see them.
Using some of these ideas as a starting point, this workshop will use
practical, accessible drama-based approaches to explore issues around
identity and diversity, and is suitable for everyone working with both young people and adults.
Cost: £50 (teachers and practitioners) / £30 student teachers
Book at Royal Exchange Box Office: 0161 833 9833

Have your say in the Arts Council National Strategy
Arts Council England have launched Achieving great art for everyone – a consultation on future priorities for the arts. The results of the consultation will inform a ten-year strategic framework and the Arts Council’s future investment decisions.
Achieving great art for everyone sets out the Arts Council’s understanding of the current arts landscape and pinpoints the areas that the Council believes need development. This is the first time the Arts Council has brought together all art forms and development areas into one set of long term priorities.
The consultation document outlines a vision for the future of the arts where England is a global creative hub, a platform for world-leading artistic excellence and innovation, and a great place for artists to live and work.
The Arts Council is inviting artists, arts organisations, partners and anyone interested in the arts to take part, including those from the commercial, amateur and voluntary sectors. The consultation will run until 14 April 2010 with the framework being published in late 2010. To find out more about how to take part and to download a copy of the consultation document visit www.artscouncil.org.uk/consultation.

This consultation involves various government departments, ENYAN’s National Steering Group, ENYAN RAPs and the wider membership.
ENYAN will be collating all responses to ascertain the level of impact this campaign has had both on the sector itself and those who are responsible for or have an interest in supporting it. They welcome all feedback, and are particularly keen to know how the campaign may have impacted on your knowledge of Young Arts Leaders programmes and your current/future programming.
Perhaps you have developed a new Young Arts Leaders project; been inspired by a case study to approach or structure a programme differently, accessed funding sources that were referred to in the resource? Please respond at: enyan@artswork.org.uk
